GU and BYU concert choir's performance

What a performance.  Pictured above are BYU’s and GU’s concert choirs from a memorable show last night at the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center.  The concert was titled Awake My Soul and was presented in the spirit of friendship between the two programs (two rival institutions 😊).

As you might expect, the voices were powerful, inspiring.  Joined by several cherished  friends who made up our delegation in the audience, we saw students who are full of talent and born to perform.  What I did not expect, was to see how the two choirs cheered for the other – genuinely caught up in the excitement of seeing fellow students be at their best.

I wish all of you could experience the daily life at GU – concerts, lectures, debates, performances, showcases, symposiums, competitions…….

During these last two weeks of the academic year, it is so gratifying to witness the determination of Gonzaga’s students, faculty, and staff who are digging in, in their drive forward. For the students with graduation on the horizon, it is the final sprint toward the next chapter of life. For others, they are one more milepost closer to the finish line.

Yet, for those who support their journey and the paths of the next generation of Zags on their heels, there will be no checkered flag, no “big finish,” because our work to sustain, improve, and further the mission of Gonzaga University must always go forth. It is truly triumphant to see class after class of students and families join this community, follow its path, and then celebrate the transition from students to alumni; however, our perpetual purpose is and should never be easy, precisely because it is worth doing.

There is hard work being done at Gonzaga University—good work that takes time, nuance, critical thought, careful reflection, and decisive action. To know that you are accompanying every member of the Gonzaga family and contributing to that work is truly gratifying. You are, your friendship is so very appreciated.

A special thank you to new GU colleague, Dr. Meg Stohlmann, our director of choral and vocal studies at Gonzaga University.  She joined GU this year and conducts the Glee Club, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. In addition, Meg also serves as the director of the Spokane Symphony Chorale.  Her leadership and talents produced last evening’s concert.  FYI: Performance Calendar

And good luck to all Bloomies sprinting, running and walking toward the 2023 Bloomsday finish line on Sunday.
