Let me tell you a little story that starts sometime in the middle of the unprecedented events of the past two years. You see, while most institutions, including Gonzaga, were fortifying themselves in preparation for the inevitable financial and operational impacts looming on the horizon, Gonzaga University also prayed. We held onto hope that the good we set out to do and inspire in others every day was taking root in the hearts of the individuals and organizations who made up our beloved and growing community.
And you know what? It did.
Those roots grew stronger in each one of you, sprouting ideas, generosity and impacts that have become mighty timbers making up the foundation of this work. And all at a time when “uncertainty” was on the lips of anyone talking about the future. Instead, you gave hope to the Gonzaga family and the communities we serve.
People took notice. Publications picked up on the magnitude of meaning in the support Gonzaga has received. The Spokane Journal of Business featured a handful of the recent, transformative donations Zags like you have made—shining a light on your impact on the leaders of the future. Friends of the University are showing up to move the University’s mission forward because they want to be an active part of the good being done here. Alumni are coming together to inspire one another to join hands and wrap their collective arms around the students who want to follow in their footsteps. People are honoring and remembering their loved ones, extending legacies through gifts that help to improve the lives of Gonzaga students and those they are committed to serving. Families are celebrating their students by giving back and opening the doors for other families of all backgrounds to be part of the Gonzaga community.
All are welcome here. Your support makes that possible.
So, with Thanksgiving upon us, I want you to know how very grateful Gonzaga University is for you and all you continue to give. I hope your holiday is filled with love, family, and most of all, hope. Because of you, our collective story goes on.
To be continued…
