Eager for you to see the behind-the-scenes look at the first annual "Welcome Wall", where students, staff and faculty wrote the names (over 1200 total!) of our newest group of Zags…the class of 2027! Each of these new Zags is also receiving a special email so they can see their special place on the wall!
The Wall, located between College Hall and Desmet residence hall, is a tradition at Gonzaga. Rumor has it, that the wall is only a few inches thick, but it has been getting painted every week (and in the early years of the tradition – every day) for decades, so most of its width is just paint.
As summarized by two alumni who researched the wall in 2013, ““The Wall” stands as a symbol of how traditional methods of communication - though sometimes used in nontraditional ways - still have a place in building community.”
Grateful for colleagues who lean into our traditions and understand the power they have in building community – one generation to the next. Most especially impressed with this creativity….seriously, this is an outstanding example of bringing this tradition to our newest members of the community in a relevant and very meaningful way. #ZagBound #Zags4Life
