What makes a teacher “great” in your eyes? For me, I appreciate those who shared extraordinary expertise, and the witty ones who reminded me that professors are people, too—but the greatest teachers were the ones who recognized the symbiotic impacts imbued in every interaction. The great teachers shape and are shaped by their students. With utmost confidence, I can confirm that every teacher leading lives toward service of the common good here at Gonzaga are truly great, and I’d like to introduce you to one:
Associate Professor Bonni Dichone, Ph.D., (above) is an Applied Mathematician whose areas of interest include mathematical modeling and differential equations. She is passionate about teaching and has taught mathematics at the university level since 2003. She enjoys working with students across disciplines, especially those in engineering and biology. Her favorite classes to teach include differential equations and advanced engineering mathematics. She also loves advising students about research opportunities, graduate school, and careers. A self-proclaimed “geek by day, artist by night”, Dr. Dichone has an extensive background in the arts, with careers in dance, musical theatre, music, and acting. She lives a full happy life with her husband, Paulo, and their children, Georgina & Rafael.
What memories do you have of great teachers – from here at GU, elementary school, your job….from any point in your life? I’d love to hear about them, as the team in Advancement is laser-focused on The Spark that helped you go forth and set the world on fire—these stories will make a big difference in helping inspire support for Gonzaga and its students on Zags Give Day, March 9. Even more importantly, if you have the contact information for the great teacher(s) who inspired you….reach out, make their day…let ‘em know how you see them.
