♫ “It's in the singing of a street corner choir; it's going home and getting warm by the fire; it's true, wherever you find love, it feels like Christmas…” ♫
Zag families from near and far recently gathered on campus for the annual Alumni & Friends Children’s Christmas Mass, where they joined together in praise and celebration of the Lord and enjoyed the ever-popular cookies with Santa and Spike.
Littles were encouraged to write letters to the man in red, which the Zag Alumni & Friends elves dutifully delivered to the North Pole the next day. My son penned just such a letter and received one in return.
I share this with you because this time of year is special for so many reasons—most of all, because it reminds us to look for the light in the eyes of children, because they are the ones we serve. Someday, these kids will either become or need Zags, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that they feel every ounce of love we’ve been equipped to give so that they can achieve their full potential as people for others. We’ll make sure that they find the love that feels like Christmas in their Gonzaga family now and forever.
PS – We have confirmed from a very reliable source that GU’s Santa – who has long served in this role for this special Mass and gathering – was in Seattle the night before helping host Battle in Seattle festivities. As soon as the game wrapped-up he headed over the pass in his sleigh to make sure he could be present for this little Zags the very next (early) morning. Just another expression of love….of how Zags take care of Zags.
