Want to see an impressive cross-section of Zags making a difference in the health sciences from across the country? Look no further than the replies to who the “Mystery Zag” was in the last edition of Gonzaga Magazine (page 40). Just looking at the careers of those who recognized Kay Nakamaye, Ph.D., (“Doc Nak” to many) paints an incredible picture of how the truly amazing the Zag Alumni Network is. Check out some of these examples:

  • A Zag who enjoyed a 35-year career in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Review chief at the Food and Drug Administration
  • A pediatrician
  • A physician executive consultant whose two sons also attended GU and took chemistry from Dr. Nakamaye
  • The chief scientific officer of a biotechnology research company
  • An internal medicine physician
  • A college professor
  • An epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • A veterinarian
  • A dentist
  • A chemist who worked with the Department of Defense

These reflections spanned the United States, too.  Gresham, Oregon; Longmeadow, Massachusetts; Atlanta, Georgia; Washington, District of Columbia; Omaha, Nebraska; San Diego, California; and beyond.

That’s just ONE PROFESSOR’s impact that inspired these extraordinary Zags to reach out. Think about that on the days when you ask yourself if what you do really matters.  You never know how much you influence the lives around you with your care, generosity, and accompaniment.  Power of Zags…..Thank you!

PS – Be on the lookout for the summer edition of GONZAGA Magazine…..should be arriving in your mailbox any day now!  (Page 40 has another mystery zag story/photo!)
