An odd request...

Note: This message was originally sent on December 3, 2021

This may seem like an odd request but join me on this journey—turn on your lights. The ones in your Christmas tree, hanging outside your home, illuminating the room you’re in, and lighting the way to your door.  Make your world as bright as you possibly can.  I want you to fully experience what Gonzaga University has gained because of Scott and Liz Morris.

This message of ZaGratitude is for and about the Morrises—a very special couple who has, through their leadership, vision, generosity, and care, lit the path for Gonzaga and its students in ways that have blessed communities far and wide.  And it’s not lost on us that Scott’s career has been associated with the power behind many of the lights we all just collectively switched on.  The Morrises have helped bring literal and figurative electricity to the Gonzaga family. Their enthusiasm for Jesuit education and the countless zaps of support they’ve provided to students over the years is a blessing for which we are all truly grateful.

Scott’s service on the Board has been undeniably electric in its impact for the University and Liz has done the exact same guiding the College of Arts and Sciences through dean transitions and strategic plans, as chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council.  However, collectively the sure wattage of the Morrises most significant power has come from mentoring hundreds of Zags (students, alumni, staff) over nearly four decades.  We cannot fully express in words how grateful this community is for their many years of dedication to the pursuit of Gonzaga’s mission (that’s why I asked you to turn on all the lights). It has been such an honor and privilege to be the beneficiaries of their service. As Scott transitions to the role of Trustee Emeritus, I hope that the Morrises feel the light they have provided to Gonzaga reflected back to them so that they, too, can experience the warm glow of gratitude we have felt because of them.

Congratulations, Scott and Liz.  Thank you for everything.   You can turn the lights out in your homes and offices now—remember our commitment to sustainability!
