Gonzaga’s longest serving employee and director of Plant and Construction Services Ken Sammons (’71) has seen his share of changes to campus—many of which, he’s been instrumental in bringing to life. From the very beginning, Gonzaga relied on Ken to care for and guide the ongoing enhancement of what so many consider “home.” He recalled the confidence leadership had in him from the very beginning, saying, “They were certain I could do it, and I did.”
Ken has a unique and special way about doing things that he describes with the mantra, “Our work must always add to and never detract from the educational experience of our students.”
The Ken Sammons Way will not end just because he is retiring at the end of the year. In fact, as you can see in the picture below, Ken Sammons Way is now part of the landscape at Gonzaga, just like his impact can be seen in the buildings, walkways, and green spaces across campus. Upon his retirement, we will all look to Ken Sammons Way as a reminder of the man whose blueprints for the future of Gonzaga served us all so well for so long. We’ll miss you, Ken.
(PS – I know you are reading this, Ken, and not happy about it…..it had to be shared….)
