A bit of inspiration as everyone heads into the weekend…..
Jonathan Lazo (’19) dreamt of a Gonzaga education. As a first-generation college student, he had been certain the degree he just completed would have been out of his reach. Now, thanks to the generosity of others, Jonathan has just become the first in his family to graduate from college. His friends and family have been there for the last four years to support him, but so has an entire community of supporters he’s never met. Like Tom and Camilla Tilford, the Brotherly Order of Yo-Yos, and hundreds of annual donors to the Zag Scholarship Fund. Their scholarships and grants helped turn Jonathan’s dream into his reality.
- The Tom and Camilla Tilford (endowed) Scholarship supports Gonzaga students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.
- Founded by an inseparable group of friends and Gonzaga alumni, The Brotherly Order of Yo-Yos (endowed) Scholarship helps Gonzaga upperclassmen during their final stretch of their educational journey be able to complete their degree.
- The Zag Scholarship Fund provides scholarships made up of the combined donations from the thousands of annual donors to GU each year.
All of this pooled support made it possible for Jonathan to earn his accounting degree and land an internship with one of the “big four” accounting firms. Congratulations Jonathan! “Even though I’ve never met these donors,” Jonathan said, “I hope they know they have truly changed my life. I can’t thank you enough for making my dream possible.”
PS – So many of you played a crucial role in making our Jesuit home, Della Strada, a reality, I thought you might enjoy this quick read from American Magazine (The Jesuit Review): “Today's Feast of the Madonna della Strada (Our Lady of the Way) is an important one for Jesuits and their colleagues.
