Hope = others = 3/11/21 (so much better than 3/20!)

Note: This message was originally sent on February 20, 2021

“Meet others where they are” “Women and Men for others” “Show up, always in all ways….”

None of these phrases are foreign to the members of this group….you embody these attributes in the ways you connect with others and lead as members of our GU community.  My hope has been that this “ZaGratitude” thread I send your way helps brings stories of how so many in our community show-up, in big bold gestures that may capture the spotlight of “news” and in every day small acts of kindness that are just the thing that was needed to “lift someone up.”

As we roll into March 2021 (yikes! remember March 2020 - ugh), we have an opportunity to spread the message of who we are, what we do, stand for and believe in to all those within Zag Nation and to those that are watching (and may be considering joining this 134+ year community).

  • Brief context:  On March 11, 2021 we will be commemorating the ninth annual Gonzaga Day, which will include an online event celebrating the perseverance of Zags and hope for the future. The day will culminate with an interview with alumni John Stockton (’84) and Laura Stockton (’19), moderated by Matt Santangelo (’00).
  • Focus for the day:  The theme for this year is “Celebrate Hope” and we want to celebrate and hope with every person in Zag Nation.
  • How you can help:  If you are willing to share how you are celebrating hope right now, we’ve made it really easy to do.  Use the link below to record a video of you answering one of the following questions:

What are you celebrating right now?  What is giving you hope for the future?

  • Here’s that link:  You can record your video directly into the ThankView platform or upload a video. Your submission may be used for this year’s Gonzaga Day promotion and/or events (websites, social media, email promotion, or during the event on March 11)!

Thank you for chewing on these questions – so important during what has been an incredibly challenging time (and past year) for so many.  If you are moved to do so, please capture your thoughts in the recording link above AND/OR just be sure to share your reflections with someone that may need to hear them today or in the days ahead.

Please know how grateful we are for the hope each of you bring to the Gonzaga community.  Wishing you a peaceful weekend ahead – I look forward to seeing you on March 11.

PS – Our Jesuit Community and ‘Mission & Ministry’ colleagues are offering the following:  Digital Lent Offerings from Della Strada   (This includes Mass tomorrow 2/21 at 4pm)
