Aluminum Jesus

As we inch closer to the long Memorial Day weekend, I want to share the image below with each of you.  This is our Sacred Heart statue located between Welch and DeSmet Halls, commonly known as the “Aluminum Jesus,” it is a favorite among Gonzaga students – today and for the generations that came before.

Aluminum Jesus photo in morning mail email

This specific photo was shared with our faculty and staff in our “Morning Mail” news on May 25th.  I was struck by the image (way to go Zack Berlat – alumnus and university photographer) and want to share it with each of you.  “Aluminum Jesus” has been a place where you often see students in reflection, relaxing – in a place of peace and quiet, comfort.

For this Memorial Day weekend, we wish all of the above to each of you – time for reflection, time for peace, time to express gratitude for those who have served our country and were taken.

Because this is a community of caring people like you, who show up to comfort one another in times of need or loss, let us also remember those who have been there to console and encourage us along the way. You provide the courage it takes to serve, and for that, we are truly grateful.
