This morning a colleague shared the attached article with me. Chris Peck, editor of The Spokesman-Review (May 1996), captures Father Coughlin’s reflections at a pivotal moment in his service as President of Gonzaga University. In honor of Father’s birthday today, I thought you might appreciate his words, as well. In particular, the section pasted below resonates today and forever – this is BJC.
Shared with me recently by another GU President (TM!) - Our students are the conduits for the impact our work will have on communities around the world. How blessed are we to have leaders like Father Coughlin (then) and so many today, who work to make sure their education is excellent, relevant, and deeply rooted in the principles on which we were founded. Our good intentions will bear magnificent fruit – “love does not know division; it unites.” Grateful to each of you for your partnership in this Mission.
Remembering Bernard Coughlin, S.J.
