On the phone with a music teacher friend of mine this week, I heard a story that made me think of you and the relationship we share with Gonzaga University. She told me about an interview with cellist Pablo Casals, who in his 90s was still practicing his instrument for hours every day. In an interview, he was asked, “why?” to which replied,
“Because I think I’m making progress.”
If I’m blessed to live into my 90s, I want to have that same growth mindset! But I realized during our conversation that I don’t have to wait that long. I see evidence of the same commitment to constant improvement in you and Gonzaga University. Like right now, as several teams of faculty, staff and administrators are working to update the strategic plan that will guide our mission forward in the coming years. Setting and resetting this course is part of the University’s practice of Jesuit education that will result in progress for students and the communities they serve.
For an institution in its 136th year, I’d say our practice is paying off. Enjoy: https://youtu.be/VhcjeZ3o5us?t=50
