We thought you might appreciate this brief welcome from our Director of Choirs and Vocal Studies, Timothy Westerhaus. In his video, Tim provides a helpful overview to see how his team is providing instruction to our students that are on campus and remote – very impressive steps our colleagues are taking to make sure that no matter where our students are, they are receiving the personal engagement they are used to experiencing as GU students.
Additionally, since on-campus in-person events are currently postponed, we thought we would bring the campus to you-virtually that is, included here is a schedule for the 2020-2021 performance calendar, where you will see many offerings will be provided LIVE, streamed to wherever you may be in the world.
October 10, 2020 – 7:00 pm: Gonzaga University's Concert Choir presents a live-streamed performance of music that evokes hope in the midst of adversity. Your spirit will be uplifted by Andrea Ramsey's "Hope Lingers On" and Moira Smiley's "Stand in that River." Music by seminal American composers Nathaniel Dett and Ysaÿe Barnwell speaks to our times. Jordanian-Palestinian composer Shireen Abu-Khader's arrangement of "Lao rahal soti," sung in Arabic, remembers those whose voices have fallen silent but remain with us in memory. Shawn Kirchner's re-envisioning of "America the Beautiful" acknowledges the complex past of this land we call America in an aspirational message of responsibility and hope.
Thank you for your support – everything we are doing, most especially in this very unique year of 2020, is made possible because of your support and belief in the important Mission that is GU.
PS – Our tradition of the Candlelight Christmas Concerts will continue, as such they will be streamed December 12 & 13 and will feature live recordings by Gonzaga singers from their November 2020 time on campus and hosted as a live college concert with Timothy Westerhaus, piano.
