Fostering a Supportive and Connected Community
Social Wellness involves having a network of healthy relationships that provide connection, belonging, and meaningful mutual support.
Social Wellness is about building and maintaining a network of healthy relationships that provide connection, belonging, and meaningful mutual support. This sense of community helps you feel grounded and supported, knowing that you have people who care about you and are there for you. It's about having friends, family, and peers who you can rely on, and who can rely on you in return. These relationships are built on trust, respect, and mutual support, creating a safe space where you can be yourself. Just like the teamwork and camaraderie seen in Gonzaga's athletics, social wellness is about working together, supporting each other, and achieving common goals. Engaging with others in meaningful ways, whether through clubs, sports, volunteer work, or other activities, helps to strengthen your sense of belonging and purpose. It's about creating bonds that enrich your life, bring joy, and provide a support system that enhances your overall well-being.
Social Wellness Resources for Student Athletes
Zag Olympics
This program began in response to the 2015-16 Student-Athlete Leadership Institute and their collaborative goal to improve departmental unification. This program focuses on a community building initiative, one that unifies the student-athletes amongst all 18 varsity teams. Hosted within the departmental new student-athlete orientation course (EDPE 195), freshmen student-athletes make up mixed athletic teams led by upperclassmen captains and compete as teams throughout the fall semester. The most significant goal of this program has always been to foster a positive and inclusive departmental culture, one that continues to create healthy relationships and mentorship for student-athletes
PRIDE Points Program
A friendly competition throughout the year in which teams compete and seek to reach a team goal. Teams receive PRIDE points for participating in department programming, including community-building events and attending each other’s competitions.
