Tuition & Financial Aid

You have many options when it comes to funding your graduate degree.

You can apply for federal financial aid, which unlike undergraduate tuition is not based on need.

You can access scholarships and check to see if your employer offers tuition reimbursement.

Philosophy Scholarships

Gonzaga University offers two types of program scholarships. Please read below for more information on each and how to be considered.

  • Peter Tripp Memorial and the Richard Twohy Scholarships
  • $3,500 per term award
  • These awards are designed to support exceptional students pursuing a Master of Arts in Philosophy and are highly selective. We aim to recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements, intellectual curiosity, and a deep commitment to philosophical inquiry with preference given to Gonzaga alumni.
  • General Philosophy Scholarships
  • $1,200 per term award
  • This scholarship is open to a broader range of applicants supporting students who are passionate about exploring philosophical thought and inquiry. It aims to encourage diverse perspectives and foster a vibrant academic community.

How To Be Considered

There is no separate application required to be considered for our Philosophy scholarships. However, you must submit a complete admissions application, including answering the scholarship questions inside the admissions application.

You will be notified about your scholarship upon admission.

Graduate Assistantships

  • The Philosophy Department offers graduate assistantship opportunities to all admitted students who want to take advantage of this experience.
  • Recipients of the Tripp or Twohy scholarships are offered additional graduate assistant hours during the summer term.
  • Graduate Assistantships provide students with valuable academic and work experience, and the funding amount is determined by the hourly wage and number of hours worked.
  • Graduate Assistantships are an opportunity to work, not a guarantee of employment or earnings.
  • Compensation is paid twice monthly based on hours worked.
  • All graduate assistants in the Philosophy Department must be enrolled full time and in good academic standing.

Student Loans

  • Eligible students can receive up to $20,500 in Federal Student Loans
  • Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually to be eligible.
  • Students must be admitted as a matriculated student in a graduate program to receive federal financial aid.
