How are CHS classes different than AP classes?
If you take an AP class, you take an AP exam at the end of the course. How well you do on the exam determines the number of college credits you can receive. Different colleges and universities have different requirements for AP scores and how many credits they offer for each AP class.
A College in the High School class is a college class you take at your high school. You will be learning the same kind of content that students at Gonzaga University learn in the same class on the college campus. The grade you get in your CHS class will be your grade on your Gonzaga University transcript. If you pass the class, you will receive college credits. Some CHS classes through Gonzaga University are 3 credits and some are 4 credits.
Will other colleges accept my CHS credits?
Credits earned through Gonzaga University’s College in the High School program are accepted at most colleges and universities in Washington and out-of-state. If you are interested in becoming a Zag after high school, the Office of Undergraduate Admission can help you with the application process!
Can I decide to register for CHS credit after I have taken the class?
You need to register at the beginning of the semester the course is offered to receive college credit.
What happens if I decide to withdraw from the course?
To receive a tuition refund and not have the course appear on your transcript, you need to withdraw from the course before the first withdrawal deadline. Let the CHS office know as soon as possible if you decide to withdraw. If you decide to withdraw after the first deadline, you will not be able to receive a refund and a “W” will appear on your college transcript for the course. You can find deadlines on the Important Dates page.
Can my mom talk to Gonzaga University for me about my grades?
As a College in the High School student, you are considered a university student and the rules are different than they are at your high school.
As a college student, you are in charge of your records and personal information. Federal law says that we cannot share any personal information to your parent or guardian without your permission. You can learn more about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) here. If you want a parent or guardian to have access to any of your information, including your student number or grades, you will need to sign a form and send it to the Registrar’s office. You will get a copy of this form by email after you are registered.
You can authorize your parent or guardian to access your bill by logging into Zagweb and following these instructions.
Will I get a college ID card?
Yes! After you register, you will receive information from Card Services about uploading your photo for your ZagCard. If you would like to use your card, you will need to pick it up in person at Card Services in the Hemmingson Center. With your ZagCard, you will be able to use the Foley Library on campus and access Hemmingson Center!
How do I register for a CHS class?
Let your high school teacher know you are interested in the CHS course. They will make sure you meet any pre-requisites for the class and provide a link for you to apply.
Once your application is received, you will be registered by the Admission Office at Gonzaga University. You will be given a student number and ID, have access to Zagweb and Zagmail, and a college transcript will be created for you. To finalize your registration, be sure to pay your tuition by the deadline.
What information will I get when I register?
With a few days after we receive your application, you will receive an email letting you know your application has been processed. It will include information about when you will be officially registered for the course and other helpful information.
When the Registrar’s office has officially registered you in your class, you will receive emails with information about FERPA, how to set up your Zagweb and Zagmail accounts, your student number, and important CHS dates. You also receive an email from Student Accounts when your tuition bill is ready to be paid. Be sure to check your regular email and your Zagmail!
I didn't get my application submitted by the deadline. Can I still register?
The registration deadline for the Fall 2024 semester is October 4, 2024. The registration deadline for the Spring 2024 semester is February 3, 2025. I am applying for college and need to send my Gonzaga University transcript. Can you do that for me?
