The Curley Chair was established in 2000 in order support a faculty who has an expertise in the area of commercial law. Fred was born in Philadelphia and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as the chief of the fraud section in the Department of Justice in the 1960s and then became a professor at Memphis State University. After leaving Memphis State, he took a faculty position at Gonzaga University School of Law where he served from 1974 to the mid 1980s. Fred and Barbara had one child. During his time at Gonzaga, Fred was recognized as one of the top professors and was recognized nationally as a leading scholar and teacher in the area of commercial law.
