First Generation Investors (FGI) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that teaches high school students the power of investing and brings classroom lessons to life by providing students with real money to invest. The Gonzaga University FGI chapter was started by two senior Hogan students, Megan Frontz and Jack Haworth. Its advisor is Dr. Monica Banyi.
FGI takes a near-peer approach to learning, utilizing a national network of college volunteers to teach the 8-week program to high school students. The program includes a range of investing topics such as compound interest, stocks, bonds, ETFs, etc. Upon completion of the program, each high school student is granted $100 to invest. The Gonzaga FGI chapter has been operating since Fall 2022 and is continuing to grow.
