AI Statement – Gonzaga University Writing Center
The Writing Center acknowledges the rising use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in writing, including in student writing projects from across the curriculum. Considering this reality, our tutors strive to help clients work productively and responsibly with AI, rather than against it. To this end, tutors benefit from open and transparent communication from clients regarding their use of AI as a writing assistant, as well as any parameters for AI use that their professors have communicated and that might pertain to Gonzaga’s Academic Integrity Policy. Simultaneously, we recognize the benefits of writing–in all stages–as a necessary cognitive process for student writers. Our tutors aim to work with clients to critically interrogate the benefits and drawbacks of using AI technology, in any capacity, while writing.
