Starting in the 2023–24 academic year, we launched a new funding opportunity for the Gonzaga community. Faculty, staff, and students with projects aligned with the PoH mission can apply for up to $2,000 to support their work. Priority is given to projects featuring students as collaborators, and to date, we’ve funded 11 projects, awarding a total of $22,000! Each project is designed to deliver a community-oriented outcome, such as a Lunch and Learn conversation, a podcast, or resources shared on our PoH website.
Here is some of the exciting work funded through this opportunity
Lessons from Dis/ability Rights Activists
About this project: This project produced three 5–10 minute podcasts showcasing the work of dis/ability rights activists. Each podcast highlights a case study demonstrating how collaborative leadership fosters inclusion. These stories provide educators with practical ideas for creating more accessible classrooms and integrating dis/ability perspectives into their teaching. Empowering Young Voices: Teaching Young Children How to Request
This project aims to help preschoolers with and without disabilities develop essential communication skills, focusing on requesting snack items during weekly sessions. Communication methods will be tailored to each child’s needs, such as using picture cues or verbal prompts. The teacher will model and guide appropriate communication behaviors, gradually fading support as the child becomes independent. If time permits, the program will extend to expanding communication skills or generalizing them to other preschool activities.
