Florence Scholars Program


The Florence Scholars Scholarship Program, awarded by the Center for Global Engagement, Italian Language Program of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, and benefactors of the Gonzaga-in-Florence program provides a unique opportunity for exceptional students to further their commitment to global engagement, Italian language and culture, and to cultivate global perspectives and intercultural competence.

What You'll Do

  • Complete ITAL 101 Elementary Italian I and ITAL 102 Elementary Italian II. This fulfills the foreign language requirement for those with a major in the College of Arts and Sciences
  • Students study ITAL 101 during fall of their 1st year with other cohort members
  • Welcome event: meet other cohort members and Florence Scholars
  • Academic lectures
  • Pasta making
  • Play bocce, cards, and other Italian cultural activities

Benefits of Participating

  • Enhance Italian language skills towards greater proficiency
  • Participate in additional service learning and internships at Gonzaga in Florence based on Italian language skills
  • First choice of Gonzaga in Florence Travel Learning Trips
  • Automatic acceptance to program upon meeting minimum requirements and application completion
  • A scholarship ranging between $2,500 and $5,000 based upon financial need
