Dear Gonzaga Community:
We are proud to formally announce that Gonzaga University is culminating the Centennial of the Gonzaga School of Business Administration this academic year. The year has provided us with the opportunity to reflect on the past and to move forward toward a bold future. It feels fitting that we do so during a year that has already shown us how quickly and drastically the world can change.
In 1921, the School was founded to help stock a fledgling city with business leaders, bankers, accountants, journalists and professionals in economics, finance and trade. In the years since, beloved and skilled faculty and staff have left a lasting impact on the lives and careers of countless students. The school has grown, adding programs in accounting, tax and entrepreneurship, and necessitating the building and eventual expansion of the Jepson Center. High caliber students are continually drawn to the School, in part due to highly ranked programs and dual AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting.
For the last 100 years, the School of Business Administration has helped develop professionals for lives of leadership and service for the common good. It is clearly poised to continue its tradition of excellence, engagement, and inspiration into the next 100 years.
During this centennial year, we celebrated the school’s rich tradition and bold vision for the future, through mentorship, experiential learning, and innovation.
This year Gonzaga acknowledged the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of several School of Business Administration graduates and faculty with five Distinguished Alumni Awards. Recent Alumna, Callie Johnson '15, Owner of Made with Love Bakery; Service to the Community, Xochitl Velazquez '12, '13, Assistant Director of the Washington Apple Education Foundation; Faculty-Staff, Terry Coombes, Former Assistant to the Dean at Gonzaga School of Business Administration; Service to Gonzaga, Kevin McQuilkin '83, Retired, Managing Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at Wells Fargo Securities; Professional Achievement, Kevin Daniels '79 with Daniels Real Estate.
This past year we were able to host a number of different events including but not limited to: The 13th Annual Aram Lecture on Business Ethics featuring former Gonzaga University Athletic Director, Mike Roth; the 27th Economics Symposium, featuring David Card, 2021 Nobel Prize winner in Economic Sciences; the 10th Annual Pigott Entrepreneurship Lecture featuring, Lisa G Shaffer, PhD is founder & former CEO of Genetic Veterinary Sciences, Inc. (DBA Paw Print Genetics); the 2nd Canfield Lifelong Learning Keynote featuring Erica Dhawan, internationally recognized leading authority, speaker and advisor on 21st century teamwork, collaboration and innovation; and our 8th Annual Community Partners event.
As we conclude our celebrations this Spring, we are grateful for the opportunities where alumni and friends of Gonzaga gathered and connected. As we embark on our next 100 years at the Gonzaga School of Business Administration, we look forward to exploring new opportunities and connections for our greater Gonzaga family. Stay tuned for all the great things to come in the future.
