Tomorrow marks Veterans Day – a day to give thanks for those women and men who have served our nation as members of the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day has its roots in the cessation of hostilities concluding “the war to end all wars” (World War I) but following World War II and the Korean War, was formally designated “Veterans Day” to reflect on the tremendous sacrifices veterans have made in service to our country. In recent years, it has also been a day to acknowledge the impact of war and the tremendous impact it has had on many veterans. Over its history, Gonzaga University has long been a campus community with strong military-connected presence, which today includes the Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion as well as hundreds of students and employees who identify as military veterans.
Throughout the month of November, the Transfer, Veteran, and Returning Adult Students (TVRAS) Office has been celebrating veterans with numerous events and opportunities to express gratitude to those who have served and those who still serve, every day. Tomorrow, please join us in the Student Chapel at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass celebrating our veteran community. Our office will once again host its annual luncheon for veteran students, faculty and staff. Members of the community can also visit Foley Library throughout the day to see a display of military uniforms and information about the different branches.
To all of our veterans and members of our military community, please know that we at Gonzaga University are grateful for your service and proud to support you each and every day. While this is just one day, know that we continue to be inspired by your extraordinary contributions to our country, our community, and our world.
May we always strive to support those who have served and made sacrifices while serving our nation. May God continue to bless and protect those who serve our Armed Forces and the United States of America.
