Thank you for your interest in becoming a Gonzaga Admission Alumni Representative!
It is through engaged alumni like yourself that we are able to increase visibility of Gonzaga throughout the nation and internationally!
My name is Sara Whelchel, I am an Admission Counselor at Gonzaga. It's a privilege to tell students and their families about how Gonzaga can propel students to success in their field of interest and equip them to be reflective, compassionate people for others. We in the Admissions Office are fortunate to be invited to college fairs across the country to increase access to and knowledge about our university. However, sometimes we are unable to attend, and we rely on alumni to help us represent Gonzaga. Sharing your experiences at Gonzaga gives prospective students an opportunity to experience what makes GU so special and to envision how they would fit on our campus. Once you sign up as an Alumni Representative, whenever someone in our office is not able to be present at the college fair in your area I will contact you to see if you are available to share your stories. Sign up for one, sign up for many, we appreciate any help! This webpage will give you further information on what it means to be an Alumni Representative. Thank you for your continued passion and engagement with GU!
Volunteer Opportunities
Our alumni are located all across the U.S. and are often in places where representatives from the Office of Admission aren't able to visit. There are three main ways alumni volunteers can help GU:
Attending College Fairs: Gonzaga's Office of Admission visits hundreds of high schools and dozens of college fairs all around the country each year, but we are still not able to attend every opportunity that we would like to. This is where our spirited alumni come in. A Gonzaga Alumni Volunteer will attend these college fairs, typically at local high schools, and talk with prospective students and their parents about GU.
Admissions Events in Your Area: Our office holds events in cities all across the country to connect with prospective students and their families. These events range from dinners with accepted students to receptions celebrating students who have already enrolled at Gonzaga. We need alumni to attend these events and share stories about what being a Zag truly means.
Virtual Events: As with everyone else, the college application process has turned virtual! Gonzaga’s Office of Admission is offering virtual events year round to connect with students and their families. Join Admission Counselors in meeting with prospective and admitted students over virtual platforms such as Zoom and ZeeMee.
Expectations for Alumni Volunteers
This is not a time-intensive volunteer opportunity. If you volunteer at a college fair, most fairs last approximately two hours We do not expect our volunteers to know the answer to every question asked; we want our alumni to simply share what it means to be a Zag with prospective students and their families. Volunteers will be provided a list of frequently asked questions and the business card for the admissions representative for the area.
Register as a Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering for one or both of the activities above, please fill out this short Alumni Representative Questionnaire. If a volunteer opportunity becomes available in your area, we may call on you for help.
