Dr. Deckert's Ph.D. focused on exercise as a modality to regulate skeletal muscle physiology and the immune system. After grad school he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the immune responses following spinal cord injury and the potential to use exercise as a mechanism to ameliorate devastating long term health issues. With an undergraduate degree in education, he greatly values the opportunity to share knowledge in these areas with students while working to make basic science topics digestible and applicable to students personal and professional lives. As a dual appointment, he teaches undergraduate students at Gonzaga University and medical students for the UW School of Medicine.
