Tim Fennessy is a Visiting Assistant Professor with Gonzaga University’s School of Law, as of January 2025. With an undergraduate degree in Political Science, Fennessy received his J.D. from Gonzaga and practiced law in Spokane for more than three decades, primarily as a litigator. His practice included representation of individual clients in the trial courts of Washington and Idaho. During his practice, he was trial counsel-assisting in client counseling, discovery, case evaluation, witness preparation, witness examination and appeals, when necessary, which resulted in arguments before the Washington State Supreme Court, the Idaho State Supreme Court, and the Washington State Court of Appeals.

In 2016, Visiting Assistant Professor Fennessy was elected to the Spokane County Superior Court and served eight years in Department 11. Having presided over many family law trial matters, dozens of jury trial cases, and hundreds of civil/criminal motions, Tim is excited to share his knowledge with students in the Lawyering Skills classes throughout the upcoming semester. The regard of the bench for Fennessy was clear in his position as Chief Criminal Judge during 2023 and 2024, as well as the Court’s Presiding Judge for 2024.
