Today, we took the train to Rotterdam and biked around the city! Our day started bright and early, with an 8 a.m. train ride over to the neighboring city. After getting off the train, we got our rental bikes for the day and got started on our agenda.

We split off into three groups, and each group was assigned three neighborhoods to explore. In each neighborhood, we were to score the physical, social, and safety attributes. This activity was to further explore the social portion of sustainability, as sustainability includes three aspects: social, economic, and environmental.

On the way to the first neighborhood, I ended up taking a tumble and falling off my bike while going down the Erasmusbrug. Enjoy the photo (it was a really embarrassing fall)!

After a brief lunch break, we went to check out the Water Park, Sponge Garden, and DakPark. All three places were examples of sustainable ways to deal with urban runoff while creating urban green spaces for local residents to socialize.

At the end of the three tours, we went to the Rotterdam Market, where we got to check out the various food stalls. I got a yummy stroopwafel (so amazing) and others got Danish hotdogs and soup dumplings. Post snacks/dinner, we did some shopping and then went back to Delft!

Finally, it is my dad’s birthday, so happy birthday, Dad! Thank you for all that you have done – I owe so much to your hard work ethic and endless support!
