Gonzaga Supporters Make Zags Give Day 2024 a Success
Success, passion, and public displays of Gonzaga affection aren’t limited to the basketball court during March.
For the past decade-plus, Zags Give Day has inspired donors from across the GU community and beyond to team up and help assure students can pursue their education no matter their economic background through scholarships and grants funded by the annual giving day.
A total of $1,152,657 was raised and matched during this year’s Zags Give Day through the generosity of 2,290 total donors.
"For the past 11 years, Zags Give Day has presented supporters the opportunity to transform lives through the gift of a Gonzaga education,” said Kristine Miller, Gonzaga’s director of annual giving. “Unrestricted donations to scholarships not only pave the way for deserving students to pursue their dreams of a Gonzaga education, but also lay the foundation for a brighter, more equitable future for the communities they serve.”
As a private, non-profit university, Gonzaga relies on its network of alumni, faculty, staff, families, friends and fans to unite for Zags Give Day cause, and they did just that once again this year.
A closer look at who donated:
- 1,072 alumni
- 290 GU faculty and staff members
- 910 GU parents and family members
- 301 first-time donors
In addition to the direct donations, several matching challenges added to the total raised, including $50,000 unlocked by donations arriving from all 50 states, and $30,000 unlocked by a match that delivered $10,000 for every 100 first-time donors.
The first Zags Give Day took place in 2014, but it was called the GU+1 24-Hour Challenge before embracing the current name in 2016. No matter what it’s called, the effort to help current and future Zags is one that continues to unite the GU community.
“By giving meaningful gifts—ranging from $5 to $50,000—Zag Nation has once again proven that when we come together toward a goal, we are unstoppable," Miller said.
