Foley Library

The Foley Library Center is collaborating with Social Justice Peer Educator Zion Vaoifi to highlight the stories of members from the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. During May, the Foley Library will showcase a diorama inside a glass display case that reveals our local Chinatown history through the lens of the 1974 World's Fair in Spokane. The diorama aims to uncover the lost story of Spokane's Chinatown, its residents, and the rich culture that differentiates the ethnic neighborhood from the rest of the community. This display will outline the relevance of understanding today's Riverfront Park history, and also features a diverse selection of books on a shelf near suite 114 on the library's main floor. These books contain stories and experiences of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander display is dedicated to showcasing the talent of AANHPI leaders, which is crucial to honor their contributions to American history. AANHPI Heritage Month allows us to understand the diverse experiences this community went through to gain equality and inclusion in societies meant to exclude them.
