Professor Lynn M. Daggett appointed inaugural Smithmoore P. Myers Chair in Law
Gonzaga Law is pleased to announce that Professor Lynn M. Daggett has been appointed as the inaugural Smithmoore P. Myers Chair in Law.
Daggett’s scholarship is interdisciplinary, informed by her Ph.D. in Education and her experience as a school attorney. Her current scholarship is at the intersection of education law, tort law, and education research, policy, and practice. Recent pieces propose a framework for conceptualizing schools’ tort duty of “reasonable” supervision for their special education students, and suggest best practices for schools to meet this duty. Daggett’s work has been published in journals such as University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform and Fordham Urban Law Journal. Currently, she is exploring schools’ authority to defend student tort and civil rights claims by seizing and using records from students’ on-campus counseling and medical treatment.
Consistent with Gonzaga Law’s Jesuit Mission to be a “person for others,” Daggett consults with, trains, and writes for educators and attorneys. She has authored several book chapters and made countless presentations for these practitioners. Daggett is also a dedicated and accomplished classroom teacher with several Law School and University-wide teaching awards.”
