Jundt Art Museum’s ‘American Prints from the Permanent Collection’ Exhibition Starts Aug. 10
SPOKANE, Wash. – A sampling of American prints from the Jundt Art Museum’s permanent collection at Gonzaga University will be on display in the Arcade Gallery starting Aug. 10. The exhibition, titled “American Prints from the Permanent Collection,” features the work of many influential 19th and 20th century American artists and will remain on display until Nov. 2.
The Jundt Art Museum’s collection boasts a rich array of American artists’ prints, including 19th century works by Winslow Homer and James Abbot McNeill Whistler. The exhibit includes the work of early 20th century American artists George Bellows, Childe Hassam, and John Marin, as well as African Americans Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence. Janet Fish, Wanda Gág, and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith present a small selection of the story of 20th century American women artists. Prints by Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, and Richard Diebenkorn depict some late 20th century themes and explorations. Works by John Taylor Arms, Will Barnet, Thomas Hart Benton, Charles Burchfield, Keith Haring, Richard Hunt, Robert Indiana, Reginald Marsh, and Robert Rauschenberg round out the exhibition.
“American Prints from the Permanent Collection” features a wide array of printmaking media, including etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, and screenprints, and likewise celebrates some of the many donors who have supported the strengthening and the growth of the Gonzaga University print collection over the years.
A free public walk-through with Paul Manoguerra, director/curator of the Jundt Art Museum, will be held in the Arcade Gallery at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 4.
The Jundt Galleries continues its summer series “Close-In,” with the exhibition “Allie Kurtz Vogt: Layers,” which features new paintings and installations by the Hayden Lake, Idaho, artist. A walk-through with the artist and a reception will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15.
