Welcome to WaCLA

The Washington Consortium for the Liberal Arts (WaCLA) is an association of Washington state public and private higher education institutions, organizations, and individuals promoting the value of a liberal arts education to the people and communities of the state.

Since forming in 2012, the Washington Consortium for the Liberal Arts (WaCLA), has undertaken several projects:

  • An employer-educator forum, co-sponsored with the Association of American Colleges and Universities, that brought together academic leaders, regional employers, and legislators for purposeful discussion about the kinds of college learning experiences that prepare students for work, leadership, life, and citizenship.
  • Annual high school and undergraduate student essay contests on the value of the liberal arts.
  • Media outreach, including several op-ed pieces that have been published throughout the state.
  • Thirty-five public and private colleges and universities and seven educational organizations and consortia are members of WaCLA. See a full list of members, download an overview (PDF), or contact wacla@gonzaga.edu for membership information.
