Finding Information in Library Databases

Academic Search Premier is a multi-disciplinary database which covers many disciplines including political science, government, politics and the social sciences as a whole. Use the database to find academic journal articles, many of which are available in full-text.

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) -- Full-text database for research in international affairs including not only academic journal articles but also policy briefs, case studies and working papers from prominent think tanks and policy analysts. More information

CultureGrams -- A good starting point for finding background information on the cultural and sociological context for the countries and cultures of the world. More information

Global Road Warrior -- Global Road Warrior provides basic statistical data, as well as images, maps, and perspectives on 95 countries, including customs, social life, money and banking, travel information. Similar to CultureGrams, it's a good starting point for understanding countries of the world.

Websites -- Use the following websites to locate information and statistical data on countries of the world.

International Labor Organization (www.ilo.org) -- The International Labour Organization (ILO) is the UN agency that brings together publications and statistics on labor throughout the world.

United Nations Statistical Databases (unstats.un.org) includes a repository of statistics related to worldwide population and housing census data, economics, vital statistics and demographics. Includes the Demographic Yearbook statistics, Millennium Indicators Database, Monthly Bulletin of Statistics online, services trade statistics, Social Indicators, Statistics and Indicators on women and men, etc.

U.S. Department of State (www.state.gov) -- Background Notes and Library of Congress Country Studies are very useful documents for gaining a better understanding of the countries of the world, covering all aspects of social, political and economic development.
